Strategic focuses

  1. We collaborate in the exploration, study, management, and conservation of the 15 priority wetlands for wintering shorebirds in Northwest Mexico.

  2. Capacity building  and education  in communities for shorebird conservation and their habitat.

  3. Desing and implementation of action plans to reduce human disturbance in key sites for shorebird conservation.

Work progress

  • We concluded the evaluation of shorebird populations and of the 15 most important wetlands for winter migration in northwestern Mexico, including their breeding areas during summer and the threats and conservation needs in each site.

  • We implemented activities for the protection and restoration of habitat –or prevention of human disturbance– in Bahía Santa Maria, Gulf of Santa Clara, the Guerrero Negro-Ojo de Liebre wetland complex, and Laguna San Ignacio.

  • With the information gathered, we adapted the Pacific Americas Shorebird Conservation Strategy to implement several elements in northwestern Mexico.
