After 15 years of effective protection, the Cabo Pulmo National Park is an example for the world on how fish populations affected by fishing activities may be recovered. However, the development of large scale real estate projects on the adjacent coastal area threatens the reef’s survival due to the environmental impacts caused by the construction and operation of this type of projects. To support the protection of this main site, in 2010 we teamed up with several institutions to evaluate the legal status of the properties on the National Park’s coastal zone and build a support and information office for visitors in the area. We also participated in the Cabo Pulmo Vivo alliance, which purpose is the conservation of this emblematic marine protected area.
