Colorado River Delta Projects Presented in San Jose, Costa Rica
To share knowledge and publicize the progress and achievements of the Colorado River Delta restoration work, Gabriela Caloca Michel and Stefanny Villagomez Palma from the Water and Wetland Conservation Program presented their experiences as part of the activities of the XI Congress on Neotropical Ornithology, which took place from July 28th to August 1st in San José, Costa Rica.

Nocturnal Surveillance Program in Cabo Pulmo National Park
One year after the installation of the Marine Monitor (M2) in the Cabo Pulmo National Park, we have identified patterns of irregular behaviors in the sea and implemented activities aimed at addressing them. As part of these activities, a pilot nocturnal surveillance program was designed and executed in the park. The program launched in June of this year.

Governance Improvement Programs in the Natural Protected Areas of Northwest Mexico: Loreto, a success story
Through Governance Improvement Programs, Pronatura Noroeste, CONANP, and their partners strengthen Natural Protected Areas (NPAs) in a systematic and measurable way. To that end, in 2016 we conducted an initial evaluation to identify opportunities to improve each NPA, with a focus on five central themes: participation of the actors, existing management instruments, actor capacities and knowledge, financing, and regulation compliance.

First guardians workshop
The first workshop to create guardians for Bahia Magdalena mangrove was on May 21st of 2019 at Santo Domingo, Comondú, Baja California Sur. This community -located in the Pacific coast- has direct contact with the mangrove, making it a strategic population for its conservation.

Golden Eagle nests in Sierra de Cucurpe, Sonora
Four years after a satellite transmitter was placed on a female Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), the specimen was seen again in Sierra de Cucurpe three miles from Ceritto Blanco, Sonora. Experts identified that the bird had established its nesting grounds in the area and that it is currently of reproductive age.

Citizen science in the Colorado River Delta
Pronatura Noroeste participated in the Urban Naturalist Challenge and Border BioBlitz, two citizen science initiatives that permit active contribution in research activities by recording observations of flora and fauna through a mobile device application.

Caring for the Pacific Red Knot and the Gulf Grunion
During the time of Easter holydays, the Pejerreinas – a group of women from the Gulf – and Pronatura Noroeste installed a n information stand on the beach of the Gulf of Santa Clara to share information about the spawning of the Gulf Grunion and the migration of shorebirds like the Pacific Red Knot with the community and tourists.

At the interexchange meeting of the Water Program of Gonzalo Rio Arronte Foundation, which took place from April 3rd to 6th in Mexico City, the Pronatura Noroeste team presented results from the Colorado River Delta project and the Tijuana River Basin project.

Pronatura Noroeste, A.C. announced that they have graduated from the GlobalGiving Accelerator program, gaining entry into the GlobalGiving marketplace and becoming a recognized partner of GlobalGiving. As part of the Accelerator, Pronatura Noroeste, A.C. successfully raised $5,074 from 44 unique individual donors to support their project, “Create 50 guardians for Bahia Magdalena mangrove.”

Bahia de Lobos: The 19th WHSRN site in Mexico
On November 9, 2018 the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network (WHSRN) designated Bahia de Lobos as a site of regional importance. The bay located on the coast of Sonora is one of the places where the Bird Laboratory of the Autonomous University of Baja California Sur (UABCS) and Pronatura Noroeste conduct studies and conservation activities.

No Fishing Zone established, and Cuban lobster houses installed in Isla Isabel
Isla Isabel is located on the Mexican Pacific, 15 miles from the coast. It is a unique place surrounded by coral reefs that serve as a nursery for one of the largest mangroves in the country. Its ecological value is recognized not only by conservation associations and government authorities, but also by the fishermen of the area who promote and are involved in actions to protect it, making them responsible both for its conservation and the development of the fishing sector.

Future use of telemetry to study Yuma Ridgway's Rail
Pronatura Noroeste is preparing a new study of Yuma’s Ridgeway Rail in the Colorado River Delta, for which telemetry will be used as a data gathering technique. Some species specimens will be tagged with transmitters to follow their path and thus identify their movements.

The FIP plan of work for the chocolate clam was approved in Altata-Ensenada de Pabellones, to achieve sustainable use of and conserve the resource, and explore new commercialization opportunities.

Sustainable White Snook fishery in Nayarit
The development of activities for the Common Snook Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP) improved the information system and monitoring of the catches of this and other associated species, and sparked the establishment of two fishing refuge areas, Barra and Palicienta in Boca de Camichin, and the Barritas estuary and Latas lagoon in Laureles, Nayarit.
