The conservation work of Pronatura Noroeste is carried out by means of ten regional programs, through which we have set conservation goals and objectives for all northwestern Mexico, allowing our offices to share experiences, technical resources and personnel, in addition to allowing for the financing and implementation of projects on a regional scale..

Marine Conservation and Sustainable Fisheries

The conservation of flora, fauna, ecosystems and marine landscapes in northwestern Mexico, with particular emphasis on the Gulf of California. The study, recovery and sustainable use of marine resources in ths region. Flagship projects: Marine conservation in Bahía de los Ángeles (B.C.) and fisheries management programs for key species in the Gulf of California.

Water and Wetland Conservation

The conservation of coastal lagoons, estuaries and marshes in northwestern Mexico, as well as the fauna associated with these habitats. The conservation, restoration and promotion of the sustainable use of underground water, rivers, arroyos and riparian habitats. Flagship projects: The conservation, restoration and acquisition of water rights in the Colorado River Delta (Son. and B.C.).

Conservation of Private and Communal Lands

The conservation of private and ejido land through the application of legal instruments. Legal consulting, technical suppor and capacity building for organization, institutions and governmental agencies. The monitoring of properties under private conservation schemes. Flagship projects: San Ignacio Lagoon (B.C.S.), El Palmito (Sin.), Sierra de Álamos (Son.), Corredor Tijuana-Tecate (B.C.), Bahía de los Ángeles (B.C.).

Education for Conservation

The design and implementation of education and training programs for children and adults, aimed at the promotion of values related to environmental conservation in rural communities and urban areas. Flagship projects: Sustainable fisheries and natural protected areas (B.C.S.) and wetland conservation (Son., Sin., B.C. y B.C.S.).

Bird Conservation

The Study and conservation of marine, aquatic and terrestrial birds in northwestern Mexico, representing one of the most important fields of work for Pronatura on a national level. Flagship projects: The conservation of migratory birds in Magdalena Bay, the San Ignacio Lagoon, the Ojo de Liebre Lagoon, the Guerrero Negro Lagoon (B.C.S.) and San Quintín Bay (B.C.).

Natural Protected Areas

The design of conservation and management programs, in addition to the implementation of projects encompassing research, conservation, education, training and infrastructure in natural protected areas of nortwestern Mexico. The promotion of new federal, state and municipal protected areas, as well as the technical and economic support for their operation. Flagship projects: The establishement and management of the Bahía de los Ángeles Biosphere Reserve and the Archipeilago de San Lorenzo National Park (B.C.).

Endangered Species

The protection and recovery of priority and/or threatened species of flora and fauna in northwestern Mexico. Flagship projects: Marine turtles in the Gulf of California, Yuma clapper rail (Son.), vaquita marina (Son. and B.C.), southern arroyo toad (B.C.), goliath and gulf groupers (Gulf of California), jaguar (Western Sierra Madre).

Environmental Policy and Legislation

Consulting, advocacy and advisory activities through which Pronatura Noroeste collaborates in the development of environmental law and regulations. Participating in the decision making process of governments and other stakeholders, we intend to guide administration and use of natural areas and resources in order to promote and facilitate their conservation.

Information for Conservation

The Pronatura Information for Conservation Center develops the cartography and geographic information systems required for the implementation of conservation projects (Geographic Information Systems Department) and facilitates internal and external communication through publications, the internet and the media (Communications Department).
