Support to Natural Protected Areas Program

Natural Protected Areas (NPAs) encompass many of the most valuable portions of Mexican territory, together with their flora, fauna and ecosystems. They are the pride of our country, a responsibility of all Mexicans and a legacy for future generations. In fulfilling its mission and mandate, Pronatura Noroeste collaborates with the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP) as well as with muncipal and state governments in the protection, financing, administration and technical support of some of the most representative NPAs of northwestern Mexico.

In 2007, we initiated the process to integrate the conservation and management programs of the "Bahía de los Ángeles y Canales de Ballenas y Salsipuedes" Biosphere Reserve and the "Zona Marina del Archipielago de San Lorenzo" National Park along with other resource management programs into the administration of these areas. We also collaborated in the design of conservation programs for birds in the coastal lagoons of the "El Vizcaíno" Biosphere Reserve and actively participated in the restoration of important portions of the "Upper Gulf of California and Colorado River Delta" Biosphere Reserve. In addition, we collaborated with the Advisory Boards of these NPAs as well as with the National Board of Natural Protected Areas, through the office of Pronatura A.C. in Mexico City.
